Nantahala Gorge Canopy Tours Now Open

July 10 Bryson City area Attraction. Nantahala Gorge, NC–No need to travel to the tropics to fly through a rain forest. The first Canopy Tour in the North Carolina Smokies is now as close as a few hours drive and you won't need a passport or inoculations to visit. The Smoky Mountain region is well known for outdoor adventure and has now become a bit more exciting.

This three-hour glide and slide experience simulates flying and is fueled by gravity and a gradual elevation change. More than just a zip line ride, Nantahala Gorge Canopy Tours takes you through multiple ecosystems; over hemlocks, and into hardwood treetops. The route takes you above the forest floor which is blanketed with mountain laurel, dogwood, fern, rhododendron, flame azalea, wild magnolia, and many other native plants. Your Canopy Ranger will also share the natural and cultural history of the gorge as you travel from section to section.

While traveling over the half-mile course across the 20 acres, the zip line is just one way to get to each platform. Participants will also use three Sky Bridges and five transfer bridges to get to the 11 zip line sections that zigzag from the slope sides, trees, and elevated platforms. State-of-the-art equipment is provided including a helmet, full body harness, trolley, gloves, and a tether safety line. The professional Canopy Rangers that accompany each group provide all the necessary instruction and assistance.

4th of July Fireworks at Fontana Village

July 4 Fontana Village. The fireworks have arrived and are waiting for this weekend’s annual fireworks extravaganza at Fontana Village. Shot from the Village Green, guests are treated to a pyrotechnic display like few others in the country. The mountains and forest provide an intimate setting that is brought to life each July 4th just after dusk. The valley’s sky erupts in a visually stunning fireworks display. The cacophony of sounds both from the booms and mountain echoes of the pyrotechnics as well as the “oohs, ahhs and laughter” from the audience round out the atmosphere. With the first air burst, everyone realizes this is the place to be for Independence Day in the Smokies.

Bring your lawn chairs and be prepared to enjoy a one-of-a-kind 4th of July at Fontana Village Resort on the southwestern border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Bluegrass Partners will be on hand to entertain with bluegrass music and humorous anecdotes on the front porch during and after supper. These events will be held on the Saturday evening of the holiday weekends, but the dining room will be open for the usual sumptuous meals that guests have grown to love for the rest of the weekend.
